Renesas Demonstration of Its Next-generation Artificial Intelligence Accelerator

in Edge AI

Michael Kosinski, Senior Embedded Software Engineer at Renesas Electronics, demonstrates the company’s latest edge AI and vision technologies and products at the 2023 Embedded Vision Summit. Specifically, Kosinski demonstrates Renesas’ proprietary DRP-AI accelerator, which provides high performance AI inference with excellent power efficiency.

This demonstration is a prototype for Renesas’ next-generation DRP-AI, which realizes sparse model performance up to 80 TOPS with 10 TOPS/W power efficiency. These capabilities allow for simpler designs with power/thermal conscious products while still delivering 10x performance compared to existing AI solutions. DRP-AI model pruning allows for the creation of models with up to 90% sparsity with minimal accuracy loss. This result is accomplished by DRP-AI software along with hardware-assisted pruning technologies. Renesas’ DRP-AI tools allow for automated end-to-end AI implementations, to achieve faster time-to-market.

Renesas will launch MPU products which integrate the DRP-AI quite soon. Stay tuned!
